WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2025 HARPER ACADEMY
The Harper Academy 4 Future Nuclear Engineers (Harper Academy), a Charles L. Harper Charities Program, hosted in partnership with the University of Michigan (UM) affords high achieving high school students matriculating into their senior year an opportunity to prepare for college while earning a generous stipend. Specifically, the Harper Academy program's primary focus is to expose and prepare students for a career fighting global greenhouse emissions as a nuclear engineer.
The Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences (NERS) department at UM has been rated as the best nuclear engineering program in the United States of America for the past several years. Highly skilled and renowned NERS faculty, dedicated UM administrators and nuclear industry experts will provide valuable insights, experiences and mentoring to afford the Harper Academy summer program student with foundational knowledge to help facilitate successful entry and completion of the freshman year of a B.S. degree program in Nuclear Engineering. Once completing a Nuclear Engineering degree program, the Harper Academy Alumni will be well positioned to launch a globally oriented, rewarding, and well compensated career in nuclear energy.

Your photo will be required for your University of Michigan ID that you will use to access campus buildings and food services.
Please carefully review the photo requirements below before submitting the new photo.
Your photo should look similar to a driver's license or a passport***
This photo does not have to be professionally taken or have passport photos made.
It is acceptable to simply have someone take a photo of the student with a digital camera or a mobile phone, following the guidelines below.
DO:
Use a white or light, non-pattern (plain) background (a plain white wall is an ideal background)
Choose a well-lit space (avoid shadows)
Should only be a portrait with head and shoulders (ONLY above you armpit level, with head fully visible)
Should be facing forward and looking into the camera with both eyes open and visible (avoid poses and photos taken from angles)
Must be in color - not black & white or sepia
Must be clear and focused (not blurred)
Must be a recent photo that resembles your current appearance (taken within the last six months)
Religious headwear is permitted
Eyeglasses are permitted (but avoid any glare and only wear them on your eyes)
Must cover the upper body with clothing
DO NOT:
DO NOT take a selfie (please have someone else take your photo)
DO NOT use a webcam
DO NOT use photo filters
DO NOT have hands or arms covering face
DO NOT distort/resize/zoom the photo such that the face is elongated or stretched
DO NOT have words on the photo (avoid clothing with clearly visible words)
DO NOT have scratches and other imperfections
DO NOT wear sunglasses, hats, bandanas, etc.
DO NOT use copyrighted photos
DO NOT send photos of your Driver's license or any other ID cards
DO NOT send photos/scans of a printed photo
DO NOT send a screenshot of a photo in your phone or computer
